![]() They use an imported flour from Italy which has wheat (be aware, if you have a wheat allergy!□) but is gluten-removed and safe even for Celiacs. The crust was soft, fluffy, buttery, and tasty in every way. □ The appetizer and the dessert were incredible, but the pizza was the showstopper. Carnegie was pretty good, but not at all on their level. They were all good, but Kesté was the absolute clear winner for us, with Don Antonio being a good second that's closer if you're uptown. We had pizza at three different places on our NYC trip - Don Antonio, Carnegie Pizza, and Kesté. He told us, "This is your second home." And while we are from several states away down in Georgia, he was right! We feel connected to this place. All the servers seem to work in tandem and I rarely saw anyone who didn't look at ease or completely happy to be working there - which is amazing, especially at about 9pm! Emilio was our waiter, and he was so wonderful! Energetic and kind, answered every question we had, and knew immediately what to do when my husband mentioned Celiac Disease, because he has it too. I am so glad we went! The environment of the restaurant is incredible and feels SO relaxed. ![]() When planning our New York trip, I came across this place, and I knew from photos of the GF pizzas that we had to go. Gluten-free pizzas are notoriously dry, brittle, thin, and just unimpressive and sad, and it's been years since my husband has found one enough like actual pizza to satiate his cravings for something as simple for most people as Papa John's. My husband has Celiac Disease, so he can have no gluten even through cross contamination. There just wasn't anything that made us leave thinking, "Wow! That was phenomenal!" Because we had that experience at every other breakfast stop on our trip, we feel like if you need GF foods in this city, you could do better at one of those places instead. This place had pretty good food, good service, and a good atmosphere, and it was great that it was dedicated gluten-free for my Celiac husband's dietary needs. Our stop here was certainly not bad, so don't misunderstand me. For the quality and amount of what we got, the price seemed a bit high. We ended up paying about $75 for a cookie, a scone, two breakfast sandwiches, and two iced coffees. In general this place was okay, but not as excellent as all the other gluten-free-friendly breakfast places we went on our week-long NYC trip. I've definitely had better scones before, and to be honest, this one was a little disappointing (oddly cookie- or cracker-like and dry) although the flavors were good. They were unfortunately out of croissants, so we got a cranberry orange scone and a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie to split. It wasn't busy when we went on a random weekday at brunch time, and service was pretty quick. The food was pretty good (the brioche bun is really excellent), and the atmosphere was cute. Staff is friendly, baked goods are ideal for a tea party, dessert for yourself or a gift too sugary.ĩ.jalapeño cheddar biscuit: disgusting. the top of the cake is sweeter but more moist than the bottom (almost as if cooked in 2 times). The cake tastes a bit off, probably because I'm used to regular chocolate cake with wheat flour? looks fluffier than it tastes. Took off the frostingĨ.chocolate crumb cake : decadent, sweet and rich. almost a hint of lemon, perhaps from cross contamination. Very prettyħ.sprinkle (pink) vanilla donut: very good donut, although quite sweet and, once again, dense (not fluffy or light). expected the frosting to be crunchy because of the "crumble"-like texture but it tastes like frosting and is smoother than one may think. Could omit frosting, doesn't add much apart from make it sweeterĥ.chocolate/brownie bite: dense, very rich, sweet, small and satisfying (almost a bit small), one more bite would be idealĦ.mocha donut: donut base tastes like lemon. good overall and satisfies your sweet tooth. Should be called a scone and have a different shape because so dense and not fluffy at allģ.coconut donut: nice texture of the frosting, quite sweet, couldn't eat more than 1/3Ĥ.pumpkin spice loaf (fall): dense (not fluffy) but soft and great flavors. it doesn't taste good, and is dense and dry.
